Buying gifts for friends and family is often a difficult and time consuming activity. There is nothing worse than having to watch somebody unwrap a gift that they clearly do not like and then watch them attempting to express delight in order to avoid awkwardness. The end result is often even more awkward than if they had just admitted they would like to exchange the gift for something else.
Buying gift vouchers is the ideal way to avoid these cringe-worthy moments. It is good for the receiver as it gives them a much greater range of items that they can then choose themselves. This choice of gift is also good for the present buyer as it cuts down on unnecessary time spent deciding upon a gift and then buying and packaging it.
Often vouchers come with an attractive greeting card which is another money-saver in the current miserable economic climate. Cards alone can increase the price of a small gift substantially.
However, buying a gift card does have the drawback that it clearly states how much has been spent on the gift. Often this can make people feel uncomfortable. Whilst this can be off-putting it is also important to realise in the age of the internet it really only takes a minute to check the price of any item. Therefore the traditional smokes and mirrors around gift-buying have already been broken down.
Allowing the receiver of the gift to have an input into what they are receiving makes sense in the current economic climate when often people are scrimping and saving in everyday life. At least with the gifts they receive they can choose something they really want.
